Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Tuesday that Türkiye serves as a model country for religious freedom, where people of different faiths can practice their beliefs freely and maintain their institutions in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Speaking at an iftar dinner with representatives of religious minorities at the presidential complex in Ankara, Mr. Erdoğan said Türkiye has a long tradition of interreligious coexistence.
However, he warned that Islamophobia, which has increased in recent years, poses a clear threat to both society and the country’s culture of coexistence.
President Erdoğan also condemned extremist groups that target places of worship, saying such attacks undermine human values and the sanctity of religion.
“We have no tolerance for dark structures like Daesh that bomb places of worship without distinction – whether mosques, churches or synagogues – and show no respect even for sacred spaces,” he said.
The Turkish president emphasized that hatred toward any religion must be rejected, describing both Islamophobia and antisemitism as serious crimes against humanity.
