A prominent Muslim civil rights organization, the Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA), has warned of escalating threats following an online misinformation campaign targeting a Southern California mosque. The campaign has led to a wave of violent threats and heightened concerns about rising Islamophobia across the United States.
According to CAIR-LA, the mosque has long provided religious and community services and is planning an expansion in Garden Grove. The social media campaign falsely claimed that the mosque promotes un-American values and seeks to establish a “parallel society” where U.S. laws do not apply.
Experts say these false claims, amplified by anti-Muslim voices online, quickly escalated into hate speech and credible threats of violence against the mosque and its worshippers.
The incident is not isolated. CAIR-LA reports recent hate-related incidents involving mosques in Simi Valley, Claremont, and La Mirada, pointing to a troubling pattern. The organization’s latest data also shows a continued rise in discrimination against Muslims nationwide.
