Two students from an Imam Hatip school in Istanbul have achieved a remarkable milestone. Through hard work and technical skill, they designed and built a unique electric car called “Firuze”, a project that has attracted significant attention on social media and within Türkiye’s educational community.

The students study at Kadıköy Anadolu Imam Hatip School in Istanbul.

Imam Hatip schools in Türkiye combine modern academic education with Islamic studies. Notably, both students behind the Firuze project are Hafiz of the Quran, meaning they have memorized the entire Quran.

The students designed and built the electric car themselves in their school workshop, a process that took about two and a half years. The vehicle’s design is inspired by Ottoman cultural aesthetics, blending traditional patterns with modern engineering and technology.

The project emerged from a student technology initiative at the school known as the Technoka Technology Team, where students work on advanced projects including robotics, drones, rockets, and electric vehicles. The two students were active members of this group.

Their electric car was later showcased at the TEKNOFEST, Turkey’s largest technology festival, where it competed in the Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Race and advanced to the finals.

The project highlights how students in Imam Hatip schools are combining religious education with innovation in science and technology, reflecting a growing interest among young people in engineering and advanced research.
